Orolonco Hill (height 2333 m.a.s.l) located in the foothills of the Aconcagua Valley North, widely dominates the Valley. Located to the East of the town of Putaendo, from its Summit you can see across the top of the Valley of the Aconcagua River, including Los Andes on the East, San Felipe to the South, Santa María to the Southeast and Putaendo westward.

Orolonco, was named to an Indian Princess, daughter of a regional chief. Orolonco fell in love with a Spanish Warrior, named Rodrigo Fernández de Araujo, challenging their gods, their lineage, his people and their tradition.

In the foothills of the cerro, the princess met with his beloved, Rodrigo swore back, when he said goodbye to her to go and fight with the indomitable Araucan.

Many moons the Princess Orolonco waited for him, but one day a machi told her that her lover had died. It is the punishment of the gods by betraying your people, told the machi, and Orolonco felt his heart die. Then, sad Princess Picunche climbed to the Summit of the Hill to mourn the death of her beloved expect that their gods away along with Rodrigo. Never fell from the Hill and her tears were so abundant that they formed a slope that still exists in the Hill. The small Creek are the tears of Orolonco who still mourns his punishment.
